The City Architect's Office will issue proposals for the appearance of Špitálka

Brno – A total of 27 possible designs for the future Špitálka district, which is set to be created in Brno on the site of the unused Brno heating plant complex, will be exhibited by the Brno City Architect's Office from Wednesday afternoon at the Urban Center in the Old Town Hall. The office informed about this in a press release today.

The designs come from architects from the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Belgium, Japan, and Singapore. They emerged from an international conceptual competition organized for the city of Brno by the architect's office.

The jury, composed of both Czech and foreign experts, had previously selected the best proposal from the Prague architectural office Aulík Fišer architekti. "The jury was impressed by the diverse public spaces, dense network of paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and the appropriate scale of streets and blocks of buildings. The authors proposed a circuit of city parks connected with the Svitava riverbank and sensitively incorporated the existing industrial buildings into their design," stated Michal Sedláček, the director of the Brno City Architect's Office.

The architectural teams were tasked with designing the space bounded by the streets Špitálka, Cejl, Koliště, and Radlas, as well as the railway line from the south. It covers an area of 25 hectares, and the city plans to build a new district there with housing for up to 4,000 people, offices, services, parks, and recreational spaces.

The designs will be on display at the Urban Center until the end of July. Admission to the exhibition is free.
