Kuks (Trutnov Region) - The Kuks hospital in the Trutnov region, where workers are completing a large renovation, will be open to the public for the first time on the weekend of March 28 and 29. The season in the baroque building, which has been closed to tourists during the construction work, will begin on April 1. CTK was informed today by Lucie Bidlasová from the National Heritage Institute's Sychrov office. The restored monument will offer tourists several novelties, such as a new pharmacy museum exhibition, a renovated courtyard, and a herb garden behind the hospital. "Restorers have also recently completed the restoration of wall paintings from the cycle titled The Dance of Death. This series of fifty paintings, which depict the equality of people in the last moment of life, had been hidden beneath a thick layer of lime," stated the custodian Libor Švec. The ceremonial opening of the Kuks hospital will take place on March 26. The public will have the opportunity to visit from March 28 to 29 from 09:00 to 17:00, and from April 1 the hospital will be open every day except Monday. The total costs of the hospital repairs will amount to approximately 440 million crowns, with the reconstruction of the premises being part of the Kuks - Pomegranate project, which consists of several sub-buildings. The project anticipates that an educational center will be established in the renovated spaces. The baroque complex in Kuks was initiated by František Antonín Špork in 1692. The construction activity peaked around 1710. From the original extensive spa complex, only the hospital with the Church of the Holy Trinity and the crypt have survived. The castle and some other buildings were lost in floods and a fire. The world-renowned Braun sculpture decorations of the area are famous.
