Kuks (Trutnov area) - Builders in Kuks in the Trutnov area are finishing a comprehensive reconstruction of the baroque hospital, a former shelter for military veterans with a clinic. The scaffolding has largely disappeared from the site. CTK was told today by the curator Libor Švec. The total costs for the repairs of the hospital will reach approximately 440 million crowns, and the area should be accessible from mid-March next year. "The weather continues to favor the construction, the contractor assures us that by the end of November, 99 percent of the construction will be finished. Outdoor work is ongoing in the garden, especially the planting of trees and plants, which, however, depends on the weather,” said Švec. The scaffolding has largely disappeared from the hospital, which remains only on the northern facade of the rococo wing and on the building of the former restaurant, where the facade painting is being completed. Restorers have finished, for example, repairing the ceiling paintings in the pharmacy and the paintings in the side chapel. "Work will definitely continue in winter, but these will be finishing works in the interiors so that it will be possible to symbolically cut the ribbon on March 13,” the curator stated. Due to the ongoing construction, the popular Christmas market in Kuks will not take place this year; the organizers have moved it to the road below the hospital and to the Elbe embankment. The markets will take place on November 15-16 and November 22-23. Last year, nearly 14,000 people visited the markets held in the hospital garden. The repairs of the area are part of the Kuks - Pomegranate project, which consists of several individual constructions. The project includes the establishment of an educational center in the restored spaces, and the garden behind the hospital is also set to be restored. The baroque complex in Kuks was started by František Antonín Špork in 1692. The construction activities peaked around 1710. From the originally extensive spa complex, only the hospital with the Church of the Holy Trinity and the crypt have survived to this day. The castle and some other buildings were lost during floods and a fire. The world-renowned Braun's sculptural decoration of the site is famous.
