Jablonec nad Nisou - The demolition of the kindergarten by the dam will cost Jablonec nad Nisou 6.5 million crowns excluding VAT; a new kindergarten will be built by the municipality using European subsidies on the site of the non-compliant buildings. Thirteen companies competed for the demolition contract, and the CANNONEER group won; work is expected to start on April 15, said city hall spokesperson Jana Fričová today. Work by the dam began in mid-February with the felling of trees.
The area originally housed the Free School, which has moved, as well as a special kindergarten that was a detached workplace of MŠ Palackého. "After several variants of verifying the use of the existing buildings, we concluded that it would be most appropriate to demolish the premises and build anew. Those buildings were constructed in the past during 'Action Z' and are not in good condition in terms of layout, construction, or building-technical standards," said Deputy Mayor Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates) regarding the project.
The project documentation estimated the demolition cost at just under 11 million crowns. "The kindergarten consists of five pavilions connected by a linking corridor or by hallways and stairs. Before the actual demolition begins, it is necessary to disconnect the facility from utilities," added Chuchlík. According to him, the next step in preparing the area for the new building will be selecting a contractor for the retaining wall, which will create space for relocating the transformer station currently located in one of the buildings slated for demolition.
According to Chuchlík, the demolition also includes the kindergarten's garden, where garden shelters, sandpits, playgrounds, flower beds, play equipment, staircases, fire pits, and part of the fencing need to be removed. A new kindergarten for 156 children will then be built on the cleared site, designed as part of an architectural competition in the summer of 2023. From 28 submitted proposals, the jury selected the best one from the architectural team of Martin Vančura, Anna Koukolová, and Ateliér Za Mák. The kindergarten is expected to welcome children next year.
This is not the only project in Jablonec; since early March, work has been underway on a forest kindergarten with a capacity of 18 children. The wooden structure, which will provide facilities for the children, will be supplied by the company Domesi, which won the public competition with a bid of 5.88 million crowns. The city hall selected from five offers. The construction is expected to be completed by mid-July, and operations will start in September. "Enrollment will take place, as with other kindergartens, on May 13, but it will be at the city hall," Fričová added.
