Kuks (Trutnov region) - The Baroque hospital Kuks near Dvůr Králové in the Trutnov region today opened an expanded permanent exhibition. In four newly renovated rooms, visitors will primarily see a model of the Kuks valley and the hospital grounds at the time of its greatest expansion in 1722. Libor Švec, the curator of Kuks, told ČTK. Kuks, with its collection of sculptures by Matyáš Bernard Braun, is one of the most significant Baroque monuments in the Czech Republic.
Other parts of the new exhibition are dedicated to the history of the Špork family and the Sweerts – Sporck family, as well as the graphics of painter Michael Rentz. His unique cycle Dance of Death is displayed. The official opening of the new exhibition will take place on Sunday, when there will also be a memorial mass for the 270th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Kuks, Count František Antonín Špork.
This year, tourists will also be able to visit the Špork family tomb, which has previously been inaccessible to the public. "Thanks to better ventilation, we tentatively opened the tomb last year. This year, we will offer access to the tomb throughout the season," said Švec. Last year, Kuks was visited by 66,000 people, which was about two-thirds more than the previous year.
The tourist season also began today at other monuments in eastern Bohemia, for example in the fortress Josefov and in Babiččina údolí near Česká Skalice. Extraordinary tours this weekend are also offered at the pre-war artillery fortress Bouda in the Orlické mountains. The Pecka Castle in the Jičín region started its season over the Easter weekend. Other monuments will traditionally open in April.
