Prague - In Prague's Letňany, mayors of the affected city districts will meet today regarding the potential construction of a government district near the final metro station of line C. The meeting will be attended by the mayor of Letňany, Zdeněk Kučera (ANO), as well as the mayors of neighboring Prague 9, Jan Jarolím, Kbely, Pavel Žďárský (for Kbely our home), and Čakovice, Jiří Vintiška (ODS). They aim to agree on a joint approach in relation to negotiations between the capital city and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), who is promoting the project.

Last week, the mayors criticized that discussions about construction on lands in the cadastre of city districts were taking place without their participation, and they were only learning about the outcomes of meetings between the Prime Minister and the Prague Mayor, Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), from the newspapers. Therefore, the mayors want to gain access to discussions about the construction.

"We really feel like vassals of Greater Prague, which decides about us in an absolutely undemocratic manner," stated Letňany Mayor Zdeněk Kučera (ANO) on Thursday. According to him, it will be up to the city districts to address issues related to the construction of the government district, the hospital, or housing.

At today's meeting, the mayors will discuss the possible impacts of the construction on the northeastern part of the capital. According to statements made last week, they are particularly concerned about negative effects on transportation, which, according to Vintiška, is already in an unsatisfactory condition.

The Mayor met with Babiš on Wednesday regarding the further use of municipal land in Letňany; he has so far rejected the construction of a bureaucratic complex. After the meeting, both politicians stated that they would continue to negotiate. The city demands the creation of a multifunctional district, where there could also be a complex for officials. However, the city is setting conditions, demanding from the state the payment for the completion of the city ring road amounting to 60 billion crowns. The city also wants to acquire the Karlín barracks and the remainder of the Bulovka Hospital complex from the state. According to Hřib, after 2028, officials from the Škodův palác could move to the barracks, and municipal flats could be built on the hospital's land.

The use of over 30 hectares of land near the metro station has been under discussion by the city for a longer period. Currently, it is a field; in the past, the then Mayor Pavel Bém wanted to build a complex for the Olympic Games on the plots.
