Prague - Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) will visit Prague's Letňany today, where a so-called government district could be created in the future. This would concentrate officials from several ministries in one location, currently spread throughout the metropolis. The Prime Minister has been talking about the construction of a large administrative complex for officials for some time. According to him, the current situation is not economical for the state.

This afternoon, Babiš will first inspect the selected plot of land in Letňany, which is near the metro C terminal. He will then move to Klíčov, where a multifunctional center could be established. The Director General of the Office for State Representation in Property Matters (ÚZSVM), Kateřina Arajmu, will also participate in the inspections with the Prime Minister.

ÚZSVM previously reported that in order to build the administrative district in Letňany, it would relocate 9,773 employees from 70 buildings. It would save 175 million crowns annually on rent for these buildings and an additional 273 million crowns on operation and maintenance.

The use of land covering more than 30 hectares near the Letňany metro station has been under discussion by the city for some time. Currently, it is farmland; in the past, the then-mayor Pavel Bém wanted to build a venue for the Olympic Games on the parcels.

In mid-July of this year, the government decided that some of the land in Letňany would be transferred to so-called government reserves. The aim is to prevent its potential transfer to private ownership, which would jeopardize the construction of the government district. Part of the land preliminarily marked for the construction of the administrative complex is currently subject to legal proceedings, in which restitutors are demanding satisfaction of their claims.

The government's plan to build the administrative district near the metro C terminal faced opposition from the City Hall last autumn. According to Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), it is not suitable to build an administrative ghetto in the metropolis. However, the City Hall later indicated that it is willing to negotiate the plan in exchange for concessions from the state.

The capital city of Prague, among other things, requests that the state invest in building a new hospital in this area to replace the outdated pavilion concept of the Na Bulovce hospital. Hřib also wants apartments and public amenities in Letňany, as well as state funding for the completion of the city ring road, similar to what is happening in Brno. He also wants to obtain a building owned by the state, where the City Hall could relocate from the expensive lease in the Škodův palác. He also wants to transfer real estate in the Bulovka complex to the city.
