Rožnov pod Radhoštěm – The renovated city library with an extension is serving readers in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the Vsetín region. After a reconstruction lasting nearly a year and a half, the first visitors arrived this afternoon. The costs reached approximately 100 million crowns, of which about two-thirds were covered by European grants and grants from the Zlín region, the library director Pavel Zajíc and the mayor of Rožnov Jan Kučera (for Independent Rožnováky) told ČTK today.
The original historic library building on Bezručova Street offered a floor area of over 400 square meters. Now, with the new extension, it is more than twice that size. "I believe we have successfully and tastefully obtained new capacities while also connecting the new part with the historic part," said Kučera.
The library, including the extension, is barrier-free. "The extension houses a hall for holding discussions. There is a smaller space connected to the children's collections, but it can be divided, and discussions can also be held there. There is almost the entire children's department, and there is the main lending desk," Zajíc stated.
Interested parties will also find a so-called noisy reading room with magazines in the extension. The building also includes a storage room for about 15,000 books, a server room, and a machine room. In the future, a café should also start serving in the extension.
On the ground floor of the historic library building, which was last significantly renovated in 1993, there are facilities for adult readers, part of the children's department, and audiobooks can also be borrowed there. "On the first floor, there is a study room with regional collections, foreign literature, drama, and poetry," said the library director. Musical recordings are also available, and there are several offices in the building.
According to Zajíc, around 2,500 readers use the services of the city library in the 16,000-inhabitant town. During the construction works, the library was temporarily relocated to the Společenský dům in Rožnov.
