CUBE architectural studio - Extension of the library in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

Rožnov pod Radhoštěm – Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the Vsetín region is preparing for the reconstruction and extension of the municipal library building. The current cost is around 51 million crowns, the representative of Rožnov's city hall, Marek Havran, informed ČTK in a press release today.

Originally, in 2016, when the winner of the architectural competition was selected, the estimated cost was around 36 million crowns. It has increased mainly due to rising construction costs. "This is caused, for example, by the passive standard, the modern technologies used, and the requirements we requested for the extension,” said Deputy Mayor Kristýna Kosová (Healthy Rožnov).

The city wants to start construction as soon as possible. "The creators of the proposal will incorporate the last comments from the production committee. After submitting the final documentation, we will have a review, followed by the final production committee, acceptance of the documentation, and other standard steps leading to the commencement of the actual construction," Kosová pointed out.

The extension is primarily meant to supplement the spaces that the building currently lacks. "This includes, for example, a new solution for the entrance, reception, children's department, professional background for the library, and also a new lecture hall. The extension as a whole is generally expected to bring more spaciousness to the library,” Kosová stated. According to the deputy mayor, the children's section, as well as other departments of the library, currently have significantly cramped spaces.

The city, with 16,000 inhabitants, is also planning the construction of a multipurpose cultural center. City councilors approved the project documentation last December; the project is expected to require 215 million crowns, and the price may change due to competition. The city should now select a contractor, and construction could begin in June, lasting 14 months.
