Rožnov pod Radhoštěm - Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in Vsetín is planning an extension of the city library building. Its current space is already insufficient. The competition for the architectural solution for the extension has announced its winner, said Tomáš Gross, spokesman for the Rožnov town hall, to ČTK.
The library has available space for users and staff of just under 400 m², and it would need at least double that. "We have been pointing out the insufficient space for about two decades now. Relocating to other premises or constructing a new building is currently really unrealistic. Therefore, we perceive the realization of the extension as one of the possible solutions to address the critical lack of space," said library director Pavel Zajíc earlier.
The construction itself could begin in spring 2018. "The timeline will depend on whether the unsuccessful proposers of the library extension contest appeal against the city council's decision or not. Ideally, the winning architect will be able to prepare the documentation for the building permit, or for the contractor, from the new year, which should be completed within a year. In spring 2018, following a selection process for the contractor, the actual realization of the extension of the Rožnov Municipal Library building could begin," stated the city's architect Jan Horký.
The winner of the competition was selected by a professional jury composed of representatives of the town and authorized architects. The author of the best architectural proposal still needs to be confirmed by the city council. "The results of the competition will only be published after the confirmation of the jury's recommendations and the approval of the winner by the city council on Wednesday, November 16. After that, the winner of the competition will be announced, and we will also hold an exhibition of all competition proposals, including reasons why some proposals were awarded," said Deputy Mayor Kristýna Kosová (Healthy Rožnov).
The city is also preparing the construction of a multi-purpose cultural center. The professional jury in the competition for the urban-architectural solution of the center selected four out of 13 proposals that progressed to the second round.
Better conditions for the library are also being addressed by nearby Valašské Meziříčí, which wants to relocate it to the Kino Svět building and create a community center there.
