Brno has accelerated the issuance of statements in the field of urban planning

Brno - Brno has adopted personnel and organizational measures for faster processing of applications in the Department of Urban Planning. This will reduce the backlog of unresolved requests for binding opinions from the department. As a result, the issuance of urban planning decisions and other permitting processes for specific construction projects in Brno will be accelerated. Brno's councilor for urban planning, Filip Chvátal, told ČTK that processing a request should take 60 days, but it can sometimes take up to nine months. More employees will work on the improvements, and overtime will also be utilized. New applications will be processed within more acceptable timeframes.

The Department of Urban Planning and Development currently has about 1300 unresolved applications. "We have finally managed to implement all necessary organizational changes and recruit new employees, which will allow us to reduce the very long waiting times for the people of Brno. Residents often request minor, low-impact modifications to their homes, but they are significantly hindered by waiting for a response from the Department of Urban Planning," stated Chvátal.

According to him, the department was overwhelmed by such requests following the legislative changes from last year, which transferred the issuance of binding opinions to it. "At the same time, all newly submitted applications that are incomplete will be returned to avoid creating a waiting list," added Chvátal.

In addition to new employees, staff from two other departments will also handle the processing of binding opinions. "As part of the personnel measures, a team of 13 additional workers has been allocated, who will temporarily carry out the tasks of processing requests for the issuance of binding opinions from the Urban Planning Authority. Overtime work has also been mandated, including on weekends and public holidays," stated Chvátal.

The new departments are processing both newly received binding opinions to ensure they are issued within legal deadlines, as well as assisting in eliminating the backlog of unresolved applications.
