Brno - Brno will demolish the footbridge over the Svratka River between Poříčí and Táborského nábřeží streets and build a new one. Part of the work costing six million crowns will include modifications to the intersection of Poříčí and Rybářská streets. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
The construction of the new footbridge will take place in connection with a project worth approximately half a billion aimed at revitalizing the Svratka River waterfront, which includes flood protection measures. "The planned construction of the seventh and eighth phases of flood protection measures on the Svratka River includes the construction of a new footbridge that will be located slightly upstream and elevated above the edge of the new flood protection walls," said Hladík. Compared to the current footbridge, the new one will be moved about 15 to 20 meters.
According to Hladík, a crossing to the footbridge will need to be built. "To do this, there must be a traffic light here and a crossing area for pedestrians on the other side. The construction will thus require a reconstruction of the entire intersection," Hladík said.
The outlet of Rybářská Street will therefore be expanded to three lanes. A new sidewalk will be created on the eastern side of Rybářská Street, and the existing one will be modified. The intersection will be divided by an island that will allow both right and left turns. The pedestrian crossing, which is currently 20 meters farther away, will be moved to the new dividing island. The intersection will be secured with traffic lights. "There will be barrier-free modifications on the sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, which will enable smooth movement for people with disabilities and parents with strollers," Hladík added.
The entire project for the revitalization of the Svratka waterfront will cost approximately half a billion crowns. It plans to revitalize the waterfront from the Riviéra bathing area to the bridge on Uhelná Street. Flood protection measures will be created, as well as promenades for pedestrians and cycling paths. According to Hladík, the city has obtained territorial planning approval and construction permits could be granted by the end of the year so that a tender for the contractor could be announced at the beginning of next year. Work on revitalizing the waterfront could thus start in a year. In addition, the city is working on preparing other sections, both on the Svratka and Svitava rivers.
