Brno – Construction of flood prevention measures on the Svratka River is set to begin next year in Brno, costing 1.5 billion including VAT. This will affect a three-kilometer section from the Riviéra swimming pool to the bridge on Uhelná Street. This was announced to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík. The city council has chosen a consortium of companies to carry out the construction.
The winner of the contract is a consortium named PPO nábřeží Svratky-Brno, which consists of the companies OHLA ŽS, Hochtief, and Firesta Fišer. "This is the first major stage that will transform the Svratka River waterfront directly in the city center. The flood prevention measures will concern both the left and right banks of the Svratka River," stated Hladík.
In addition to channel modifications and the construction of dikes, the project includes the building of bike paths, walkways, or a colonnade, a café, as well as the planting of trees and ensuring flood protection for the sewage system and the relocation of utility networks. "We have also added a crucial aspect to the project, namely the reconstruction of the main sewer A and the water supply. The area will be freed up for further development, as the current development near the Svratka is now significantly limited by its flood zone," Hladík said.
Part of the costs, amounting to over 900 million, is expected to be covered by subsidies, while the remaining 600 million will be paid by the city. Work is expected to start in the first quarter of next year, with completion anticipated by the end of 2023. "The implementation of nature-based flood prevention measures is one of the strategic projects. The measures will protect people and property and will concern nearly 6,000 people," added Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
