Brno, May 11 - Brno announces a tender for the construction of a kindergarten in the Kamechy housing estate in the Bystrc district. According to Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO), the costs are estimated at 74 million. A building with six classrooms for nearly 170 children will be created. The construction could be completed next summer. There is already one kindergarten in the estate, but due to the expanding buildings and new residents, it is no longer sufficient.

According to Zuzana Taušová from the city hall's press center, nearly 2300 people were reported to be residing in Kamechy in March this year. "There may be more living there without being registered," added Taušová.

The new kindergarten will have its own kitchen, and the project also includes the construction of a parking lot and a fenced school garden with a playground. "The tender will run in the coming days. As soon as we have the bids, we can start construction. We expect that if there are no appeals, the construction could be completed by the end of August next year," said Mrázek.

According to him, the Bystrc district, especially Kamechy, has a significant deficit in educational facilities. "Considering how many residents live in Kamechy today and how many children are there, the capacities are insufficient. We are trying to build the structure as a kindergarten; however, in the future, we consider that we can easily convert it into a primary school," added Mrázek.

Brno has nearly 140 kindergartens attended by about 11,500 children. At the turn of the millennium, that number was over 8000. Although Brno has expanded kindergartens by about 2500 places in recent years through renovations or the construction of new facilities, there are still parents who have nowhere to place their children. However, these are often children under three years old.
