Brno - Brno has commissioned the preparation of a feasibility study and documentation for land use decision regarding the extension of the tram line from Bystrc to the Kamechy housing estate. It will cost 16.2 million crowns. After completing these materials, the city will be able to work on the documentation for the building permit and finally start constructing the line. It is expected to significantly increase the comfort of passengers from the ever-growing housing estate with several thousand residents, said Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO) at a press conference.

The preparation of the line is taking longer, as Mrázek's predecessor already had the investment plan developed. The problem lies in the geological subsoil. "Fortunately, the city commissioned a geological survey in previous years, which showed that there is rock in part of the area. The upcoming study will examine multiple route options, as it may turn out that even a slightly longer route that avoids the challenging terrain could end up being cheaper. The designer's task is to select the route and prepare the documentation for the land use decision," said Mrázek.

Public transport service for the Kamechy housing estate has been provided by buses for several years, with their frequency increasing in connection with the gradual growth in the number of residents. During morning and afternoon rush hours, they are often full and do not offer the comfort that a high-capacity tram would provide.
