Brno - The Brno studio of Czech Television (ČT) is preparing to move from the city center to new premises in Líšeň, in the former Zetor complex. A new building was created here for 274 million crowns, and one original building has been completely reconstructed. The constructions have already been approved, and now the furnishing of the buildings with furniture and technology will take place. Viewers should see live broadcasts from the Líšeň studio probably in September, said the director of Brno ČT, Jan Souček, to reporters today.

The new building will house studios, while the former headquarters of Zetor will accommodate the administrative section. “We completely stripped it and built the interior to suit our needs and meet the demands of modern television,” said Souček.

So far, Brno ČT has been located in two buildings on Běhounská and Jezuitská streets, which have served as a temporary solution for a long 55 years. “There are many advantages to the new studio. One of the biggest is that we will acquire a large studio, and instead of two, we will have three directing complexes. In the new studio, we will be able to build sets for scripted productions or film a variety show with 150 audience members in the theater. Another benefit is the end of parking problems,” said Souček.

There will also be no more complicated running between two buildings, where employees often had to cross the street because the buildings were not connected. “Jobs that are closely related and need to communicate will be located together,” said Souček.

Czech Television will sell the old buildings at a public auction. They are currently selecting a company that will completely secure and organize the auction. The proceeds may cover about half of the construction costs of the new studio.

Now, employees are waiting for weeks of moving, reviving technologies, and installing new ones. “We are moving about 70 percent of the technology; we will buy the rest. In recent years, we purposely did not modernize some and waited for the move, so we are facing a technological leap,” stated Souček. An additional tens of millions of crowns will need to be invested in it and the new furniture.

The Brno studio has about 250 employees who will relocate to Líšeň. Other operations outside the center will remain in their places for now. However, the television also owns additional plots of land in the vicinity, on which studios could potentially be built in the future.
