Brno - The recreational area in Brno at the Riviera is set to have new stainless steel tubs in all three pools in the future, which will address critical water leakage issues, as well as new additional attractions. The city has decided not to pursue a minimalist reconstruction option. People can look forward to water spouts, loungers in the pool, air bubbles, a shorter slide, or a water slide, said Martin Mikš, director of the city's company Starez to ČTK. The estimated costs are 150 million crowns.

Currently, the project for the building permit is being finalized. Once the building office decides on the type of procedure for its assessment, a project will be prepared for the announcement of a public tender. "This could be completed by the end of summer or in the fall," said Mikš. Starez also still has to resolve with the city how to secure financing for the construction and whether it will be done in phases or if everything will be completed next year. "If we were to do everything at once, we wouldn't open next season, but it would be worth it," said Mikš.

The basis of the reconstruction is to line all three pools with a stainless steel tub. "The manufacturer claims that with good maintenance, the lifespan is 80 years. At the same time, new piping needs to be installed. The attractions planned will be such that they do not disrupt the character of the area," stated Mikš.

The reconstruction is necessary. According to Mikš, last year efforts were made to ensure safe operations with all resources, and the same is true this year. Additionally, the area required significant maintenance investments. "Even so, we have already had two emergencies this year," noted Mikš. Last year, for example, 200 cubic meters of water were lost daily from the pools due to cracks in the concrete, which increased operational costs by 800,000 crowns.

The Riviera is a popular recreational area and one of the largest natural sites in the country. Its history in the Svratka valley dates back to the 19th century, with a daily capacity of about 7,000 people. In addition to swimming, it also offers courts for beach volleyball.
