Brno - Brno has a new traffic education area starting today. The construction, which cost 94 million, also included the renovation of the dilapidated chateau near the Riviera, financed by the European Union by more than two-thirds. The traffic playground will be operated by the city police. City officials presented the area to reporters today. The area will primarily serve for teaching children in the morning hours. "Thanks to this, we hope to make the city safer and children will know how to behave on the roads in the future," said Richard Mrázek, the deputy mayor of Brno, today. The area will be open to the public from Saturday. During the open house, the spaces in close proximity to the Svratka River will be filled with stands showcasing police and fire department work, as well as rescue equipment. The Riviera traffic playground on Bauer Street offers a covered area for teaching safe behavior in road traffic. The covered hall occupies 2,376 square meters and will provide shelter during less favorable weather conditions. The open traffic playground spans 900 square meters, and both parts can be connected in nice weather. The officers will focus on educating children from elementary and preschool institutions in classrooms and on the playground. There are also visual aids on-site, such as a crash simulator, a rollover vehicle simulator, and cycling, motorcycling, and car simulators. The new facilities were equipped this year with computing technology and teaching aids that cost almost eight million crowns. The renovated chateau will also be used by the city police for lectures at the Senior Academy, among other things. The operation on-site will be year-round. The city is also considering future investments in the vicinity of the Riviera Spa. According to Antonín Crha, the chairman of the board of the city company Starez-sport, there are plans to relocate the ice rink currently located behind Lužánky or to cover the beach volleyball courts.
