At the Brno Riviera, the reconstruction of the pools has begun

Brno - The Brno Riviéra swimming pool has already been occupied by workers with jackhammers and excavators, kicking off a reconstruction that will last three quarters of a year at a cost of 214 million crowns. By the end of May, the pools, which measure nearly half a kilometer in length, will have stainless steel basins. New attractions will also be added; alongside small water and underwater features, there will be a waterslide and a slide in the area, said Martin Mikš, the director of the municipal company Starez, at a press conference today. The reconstruction is necessary due to the emergency state of the pools, from which up to 200 cubic meters of water leaked daily.

The lifespan of the new pools is several decades, and their advantage is that very little maintenance is needed. This will lower operational costs, but electricity costs for operating the attractions will increase again. The water supply and filters will also undergo reconstruction.

Two larger attractions are the maximum that could be placed at the Riviéra, as the architects were against larger interventions into the unique natural area between the course of the Svratka River and its oxbow. The swimming pool is among the largest natural recreational urban areas in the Czech Republic. It consists of three pools, with a swimming pool and a children's pool at the edges and a large pool in the middle with a depth of about one to one and a half meters. Water is drawn from the oxbow of the Svratka River and, during dry periods, from the public water supply.

"In the future, we would like to gradually also repair the sidewalks. We are also considering watering the lawns because when it is dry, the grass can become so scorched that people are basically lying on dirt," said Mikš.

The swimming pool is expected to open for trial operation next June, and if everything goes well, it will commence the regular summer season at the end of the school year.
