Frýdek-Místek - Frýdek-Místek wants to utilize the areas and buildings of the former textile factory Slezan for hosting cultural events. In the coming months, events such as theater performances, exhibitions, and music festivals will take place there, said today the spokesperson of the magistrate, Jana Matějíková. People will be able to head for culture to the spaces located on Na Příkopě, Těšínská, and Staroměstská streets.

Seven events are planned from May to October, with the first one happening this Saturday at 8:00 PM, when people will be able to visit one of the stops of the Literary Night in the former Slezan headquarters building. On June 9, the former felt factory on Těšínská street will transform into a theater scene featuring the performance "Raging Bull".

The largest events will include a musical open-air festival with a showcase of microbreweries, named Pivohraní, taking place in Staroměstská street at the beginning of August. It is anticipated that up to 3,000 people may attend. A series of additional events will conclude with the exhibition "About Slezan in Slezan" in October. The cultural events are organized by the city's contribution organization KulturaFM.

"We were inspired by the connection of culture and industrial heritage in other cities, and we have long been tempted to try something similar here. Last year, we held a film production in one of the Slezan areas, but this year we came up with a more extensive project containing a variety of events across multiple areas," said the director of KulturaFM, Jakub Tichý.

The procurator of Slezan, Jiří Karásek, welcomes the revitalization of the areas through culture. "Until the properties find new long-term usage and development, we welcome it when they occasionally come to life with interesting events. We appreciate KulturaFM's efforts to organize events in the premises of former textile factories, so we will provide the spaces for a symbolic one hundred crowns," Karásek stated.

Slezan was historically one of the largest textile companies in the Czech Republic. Before 2000, it had over 2,600 employees, and at the beginning of 2009, more than 600 people worked there. However, due to the economic crisis and cheap competition from Asia, the company significantly lost orders and went into bankruptcy, but it managed to repay its debts to creditors.
