The Slezan Building in Frýdek-Místek, former cotton spinning mill of A. Landsberger No. 1085, on parcel No. 2822/1, cadastral area Frýdek, municipality Frýdek-Místek

DEMOLITION WILL BEGIN IN THE WEEK OF MARCH 3, 2014!

PETITION HERE

Every building, every brownfield has the right to its functional recycling. Especially a technical monument like the Slezan complex in F-M, a reminder of the peak era of the textile industry in the city. It is a pity that in this case there is a lack of communication with both the professional and lay public, and information is released shortly before the demolition of one of the buildings...

It works everywhere in the world. Why not in Frýdek-Místek, where everything vibrant is slowly disappearing?

Excerpt from a comment sent by the National Heritage Institute:

"We submitted a proposal for the declaration of the spinning mill to the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in 2002. The proposals were created as a result of documentation of the textile industry in Frýdek-Místek, which we conducted in 1999-2000. In 2012, the Ministry of Culture decided not to declare it a cultural monument and justified the decision in accordance with the opinion of the regional authority, the town hall, and the trustee of the bankruptcy estate, citing a lack of historical-architectural value: standard period solutions, secondary interventions (resulting from long-term operational use), lack of preserved equipment, missing utilization, manifestations of neglect and the related structural-technical condition. Urban-historical values were found to be insufficient. Similar decisions were made in other cases of textile factory buildings in Frýdek and Místek (except for the spinning mill of the Neumann Brothers).

Unfortunately, we are witnessing a repetition of what we have seen more than once before, where reliable demolition is driven by a combination of neglected maintenance and potential vacant land in city centers. For Frýdek-Místek, this is another in a series of losses (see the brutal delays by the city, the Kaufland store immediately below the Frýdek square, or the demolition of the sports hall). The owner's refusal to the proposal for the declaration as a cultural monument (in this case, the trustee of the bankruptcy estate) was to be expected; the negative attitudes of the town hall and the regional authority are a different matter and their consequences are fatal."

"A city that does not know its history has never truly lived." - a humorous advertising motto of the city of Frýdek-Místek (in the context of demolition)
