Jürgen Mayer H.

The German architect J. Mayer H. completed a border control building between Turkey and Georgia in the village of Sarpi on the Black Sea coast last November. The white tower perfectly fits into Mayer's oeuvre: a scale-less sculpture, but with a clear intention to become an unmistakable landmark. On the ground floor of the customs office, which resembles a giant piece of a puzzle, there are passport control waiting areas. In addition to the officials inside, there is also a café, a conference hall, and a terrace overlooking the Black Sea.
The new entry gate to Georgia is meant to symbolize the blossoming of the entire country. In Mestia in northwestern Georgia, J. Mayer H. recently completed another entry gate to the Caucasus – an international airport building that recalls the historic towers of this UNESCO-listed city in its design.
