The Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) called on the Magistrate of the Capital City of Prague in mid-February to strive for a professional discussion on the use of Štvanice Island and the revitalization of the Vltava River surroundings. At the same time, the Chamber pointed out the possibility of finding the best solution for this significant urban area through an architectural competition. Today, ČKA received a positive statement from the councilor of the Capital City of Prague, Aleksandra Udženija, who plans to collaborate with the Chamber on this matter. The Magistrate of the Capital City of Prague has decided to address the revitalization of the Vltava River surroundings, including its embankments and islands. A tender for the development of a study on Štvanice Island already took place in February. According to the magistrate's announcement, the purpose of this contract was to obtain further background information for the best possible use of the island. “The aim of the entire case was to select an expert consultant who has experience in the use of similar locations abroad,” clarified ČKA today, councilor Alexandra Udženija. The Czech Chamber of Architects appealed in February for timely and quality preparation of the assignment for the development of all projects (including Štvanice Island) related to such a valuable urban area, which the surroundings of the Vltava undoubtedly are. It reiterated the possibility of organizing urban-architectural competitions for proposals for these places, which could provide dozens of possible solution variants from which the most suitable one can be selected. The Chamber also offered the magistrate consultations regarding the assignment of public procurement tenders, particularly concerning the conditions of architectural competitions, and is ready to recommend procedures and experts. Alexandra Udženija stated in her letter today that she wants to collaborate with the professional chamber: “After the completion of all the materials, we will be pleased if the Czech Chamber of Architects assists the city in selecting the most suitable architectural, artistic, technical, and economic solution for Štvanice.” ČKA believes that this is the first step towards jointly obtaining projects for the residents of the capital city regarding the surroundings of the Vltava that will exhibit high quality in architectural, artistic, technical, and economic solutions.
