FLORIAN'S STUDIO STUDENT WORK has been operating within the Faculty of Architecture at CTU Prague since 2004. In addition to the leader Miloš Florián, the teaching and other activities are primarily joined by doctoral student Lukáš Kurilla, as well as doctoral students Nina Hedwic Mainerová, Marek Růžička, and student team members. Architecture and urbanism are viewed as multifunctional dynamic systems.

The studio generally operates on the principles of parametric and generative planning, based on the application of digital techniques enriched with advanced animations, simulations, and tools for planning the structural form of a building, as well as parametric design systems and scripting methods. Through parameterization, an architect, designer, planner, or student can generate an infinite number of similar structures of buildings or objects, which, in other words, means a geometric output of pre-defined dimensional, reference, and functional dependencies. The structure is defined by algorithms, into which a number of variables enter, such as dimensions and the number of individual components. If the algorithmic scripts that determine the shape and location of structural components are written sufficiently generally, it is possible to change the input parameters, and thereby the final expression. The evaluation and development of variants remain entirely at the discretion of the author-planner, in contrast to the automatic substitution of various parameters into the form, design, architectural model, or entire structure. In parametric design, instead of form, its specific parameters are set, which, in conjunction with digital technologies, can be used for iterative methods of design and optimization. The ideal is structurally oriented models of buildings, where growth is potentially driven by the entire evolving structure through the existing elements of that structure. The concentration of growth models enables combinations of atomic structure and the mechanical properties of the material with the macro-behavior of the building structure as a whole embedded in a dynamic environment. This leads to different models for different materials in relation to more extensive structures of buildings related to the specific properties of the material. The result is a saving of materials, production, and realization of building structures sensitive to the environment. Algorithmic architecture is created.

Jury's Comment
A stalwart among the nominated studios distinguishes itself with its focus on experimental digital design methods. Impressive multimedia presentations with demanding physical and digital models testify that the studio does not rely solely on the background of the school and has built a network of collaborating institutions and companies.
