Český Brod – Český Brod is preparing a large-scale reconstruction of Arnošt z Pardubic Square and Husova Square. The areas that make up the city center do not meet current requirements, lacking, for example, space for gatherings. Today, the councilors are to approve the city's commencement of preparations for an architectural competition for a new design of the square, said Mayor Tomáš Klinecký to ČTK.
"The main problem is the lack of areas that would allow for gatherings and events; the space is not very pleasant for staying, and a large part of it is taken up by parking spaces," Klinecký said. According to him, it will not be possible to completely remove parked cars from the square because there are shops, offices, and residents there. "However, at least part of the parking spaces can be relocated elsewhere," the mayor stated.
According to Klinecký, the city could announce the architectural competition for a new design of the square in the spring, and he hopes to have the project documentation ready within one to two years. "We expect that funding could be obtained from IROP from the integrated territorial investment program, from which we would also like to draw for two other projects," he added.
The city has previously prepared the reconstruction of the square, but it did not proceed due to a lack of funds. The original project documentation is, according to Klinecký, about 15 years old and outdated.
