Utilization of mosaics in pools and wellness

Not only for domestic, but also for public pools and wellness centers, the enormous material and color options offered by modern mosaics can be utilized. What should you watch out for? How to incorporate mosaics into space while adhering to all applicable standards? Here are the answers.
 

Public (as well as domestic) pools and wellness centers are subject to strict standards, which include parameters for the slip resistance of floor coverings. Sometimes we encounter situations where a mosaic is classified as an artistic product, to which no technical standards apply. This can then allow avoidance of standards that are otherwise generally applicable to pools and wellness.

It is important for all architects and construction engineers designing these spaces to proceed in accordance with the applicable construction legislation. Therefore, we will now focus on the use of mosaics and demonstrate that these creative materials can be used as flooring, fully in accordance with applicable standards. You just need to know which manufacturers have valid certifications.

One of those who are currently setting trends and have all the strict certificates available is Spanish manufacturer Hisbalit. Mosaics of this brand meet all the technical parameters of the standard UNI EN14411, even though this standard is not mandatory for glass mosaics because it pertains to ceramic tiles and paving.

Slip resistance class B is suitable for:

• pool surrounds, areas around pools that are occasionally wet
• all areas where people walk with wet feet, such as saunas and wellness areas
• public showers and stairs
• horizontal bottoms of pools with water depths up to 80 cm
• bottoms of pools with a slope of up to 8° and a depth of up to 135 cm

Slip resistance class C is suitable for:

• bottoms of pools with a slope greater than 8° and a depth of up to 135 cm
• steps, starting areas, tread surfaces of slides and stairs into the water

Both of the above slip resistance types are available not only for solid color mosaics 2.5 x 2.5 cm but also:

• mosaics with metallic effects
• standard and custom mixtures
• gradations standard and custom
• decorations standard and custom
• less common formats, such as circles and hexagons
