Interior design and the design of restaurants and bars have their precise rules. The basic one is: do not bore. And surprise. We have a guide on how to do it.

Originality of the concept above all

Experiential gastronomy, concept, fusion of all possible cultures and cuisines… these are the current requirements that an architect or interior designer will encounter when designing restaurant interiors.
And they must respond appropriately, primarily by designing the interior and space so that it attracts guests. Just as the menu has its lifespan and changes are usually measured in months rather than years, the interior concept is also time-limited. Designing a successful restaurant or bar is first and foremost a question of concept originality. Approaches to designing restaurant operations evolve over time, and capturing current trends and utilizing them correctly is the key to success.

The lifespan of a restaurant or bar interior is typically measured in single years. People expect the interior to attract them; they want to be surprised, enchanted… They want an interior that captures their attention. We all remember the era of the 1990s when cafés were furnished with discarded sewing machines and quirky furniture collected for a few crowns at flea markets.
A few years have passed, and the design of restaurant and café interiors has become a distinct discipline that places just as high demands on architects as other types of interiors. In many ways, perhaps even greater, because succeeding today in the enormous competition of bistros, bars, cafés, restaurants… is not easy.

Bet on mosaics!

Gray concrete plaster, tubular furniture, or entirely low-cost pallets as the basis of the interior… all of this has been done before. And most likely, with these elements, you won't make a significant impact as an architect. Bet on mosaics!
Very easily and with an accessible budget, you can achieve original solutions. Moreover, thanks to mosaics, you can address the necessary theme of interior reconstruction in restaurant and café operations. How?
In the original interior that needs to be (usually as quickly and with a limited budget as possible) redesigned and proposed anew, mosaics can be utilized. Old tiles or pavements do not need to be painstakingly removed but can be covered with new, original mosaics. Often even without needing to level the floors or walls, as is the case with laying new tiles. Mosaics can "withstand" slight irregularities and undulations of the underlying surface.
A key argument for your clients: a complete interior makeover will be cheaper and finished sooner. Time, which is the most critical variable for gastronomic operations, can thus be shortened.

Tips: aesthetics of the space

An original mosaic (read more about individual mosaic designs at www.oblozeno.cz) will stand out even in a small space and give it a unique look. Even a small bistro covering several dozen square meters will gain a completely new dimension. Mosaics can be used not only on floors but can also cover walls. Even ceilings.

We have prepared several practical tips on how to use mosaics in restaurants and similar operations:
  • You can place mosaics on the floor. Utilize Hisbalit glass mosaics, which can withstand high load in public spaces. Non-slip solutions are also suitable for the most heavily trafficked areas: the combination of small square surfaces and joints not only helps against slipping but can be used to create a series of original décors.
  • Print on mosaics. Logos, texts, photographs, anything… Any printing can be applied to the mosaic and baked in a furnace just like the glaze in ceramic tiles.
  • Try very high-quality mosaics from the manufacturer APPIANI, which offers a range of products suitable for floors, including original, standard, and custom decorations and mixes.
  • Enhance the bar counter or walls behind the bar with your original decorative patterns of circles or hexagons.
  • Even the restrooms in the restaurant can have a new aesthetic expression thanks to mosaics and surprise visitors.
