Custom Project Solution
Benjamin Calleja Westling was looking for a partner who could "push the boundaries of possibility" in the field of progressive home technologies. Colleagues from the Swedish branch of the German-French company Hager took on this challenge with enthusiasm, listening to the client's needs and providing innovative solutions. They stood by the architect and builders throughout the entire project – from design and planning, during installation, to final realization. The result is a villa that combines Scandinavian style with elements you would more likely expect in Los Angeles or Southern Europe. Unconventional marbles, luxurious materials, and artistic artifacts contribute to a sense of uniqueness and remind the residents and visitors of the house of the owners' frequent travels abroad.
Exceptional Features and Modern Technology
The Westling villa is equipped with cutting-edge technologies that make it not only aesthetically appealing but also extremely functional. Lighting, which is often underestimated in many homes, played a key role here. Benjamin emphasized that the lighting should highlight various angles and profiles of the house. The lighting is controlled by designer switches from the berker Q.3 series in white and anthracite colors. However, Benjamin would not be satisfied with a standard solution. To facilitate orientation for residents and especially visitors in controlling the house, he had the switches and control elements marked with icons that indicate what each switch controls. This is exactly the kind of individual requests that the custom manufacturing program Hager Manufaktura takes care of. The result was a personalized supply of control elements for the villa's interior.
“We wanted clear communication in English, with the right lighting scenes in every room. It is important to us that not only can we manage and control the house through an app and a tablet, but the switches are also easy for our friends and family to use,”
explains Benjamin.
Sustainability and Cost Savings
In addition to the aesthetic and technological aspects, sustainability was also an important factor for Benjamin when building his new home. The Westling villa is equipped with modern Hager systems based on KNX, which allow for complete control over energy consumption management, contributing to lower living costs and emissions. Benjamin's goal was to maximize the use of home automation and available technologies so that people do not have to actively think about controlling appliances, lighting, or shading, and to automate these processes to eliminate unnecessary costs, such as when someone forgets to turn off the lights. Controlling lighting with motion and presence sensors or twilight switches is just one example. Similarly, charging electric cars at home is optimized according to current load at any given moment. Two Hager witty charging stations for electric cars have been installed in the garage, which is a step towards the future of transportation, as Benjamin believes that all transportation will soon be electrified.
The technical room in the Westling villa, due to the amount of technology used, resembles more of a technical center of a hotel than a family home, as Benjamin humorously emphasizes. Security and property protection were also a priority during construction. Although it is not mandatory in Sweden, the villa is equipped with comprehensive surge and fire protection, ensuring the safety of all electronic devices in the house and allowing its residents to sleep more peacefully.
Scandinavian Beauty
The Westling villa is proof that modern design, cutting-edge technology, and sustainability can go hand in hand, while also providing benefits in terms of cost savings and maximum comfort. This project, through which Benjamin Calleja Westling realized his dream of ideal housing with the help of Hager technologies, pushed the boundaries of possibility and set a new standard for modern living.
