Energy-efficient window, door, and facade systems significantly contribute to achieving ambitious climate protection goals. For this reason, Schüco continuously strives to enhance the energy efficiency and sustainability of its product portfolio, thereby contributing to its environmental friendliness. Through its second sustainability report, now for the period 2017/2018, the company demonstrates its economic, environmental, and social commitment to greater climate and environmental protection. This report, created based on the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), illustrates the fundamental importance of sustainability and transparency for the corporate philosophy.

"For Schüco, sustainability is not just a trend, but a clear stance. We see ourselves as pioneers not only in our industry but also in taking responsibility for promoting sustainable thinking in construction as a whole. This stance thus represents not just a drive for short-term growth but also consideration for future generations," stated Andreas Engelhardt, Managing Partner of Schüco International KG. The company itself is already responding to the increasing scarcity of raw materials, which particularly impacts the construction industry. With a 100% commitment to sustainability, Schüco as a system provider considers the entire life cycle of a building: from planning, construction, and operation to demolition and recycling.

Certified Product Portfolio of Schüco

Schüco is a pioneer in the construction industry in the development of certified C2C (Cradle to Cradle) products—raw materials can be reused after recycling without loss of quality. Schüco also offers solutions that support building certification in accordance with BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council), and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. The company Schüco was one of the first entities in the construction industry to obtain certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for responsible use of aluminum throughout the entire supply chain. Sustainability in the use and production of PVC-U is also of great importance to the company. Therefore, the initiative to ensure sustainability in the European PVC industry awarded it the VinylPlus label for this effort. However, further steps are still necessary—in the future, implementing solutions that consider the entire supply chain will be crucial for realizing maximum recycling potential.

Responsible Use of Resources

As an entity that develops and provides products dependent on natural resources, Schüco influences society and the environment through its business activities. Products should not only impress with their quality and safety but must also meet the demands of society and the environment. As a system provider, the company actively contributes to creating a sustainable supply chain, helping to minimize risks and reduce any negative impacts. In the interest of reducing CO2 emissions, the company increasingly relies on recycling, and transparency of origin also plays a key role for its raw materials. Together with the German branch of the World Wildlife Fund, Schüco is campaigning for responsible resource use in the construction industry and is working towards establishing scientifically based climate protection goals.
