As soon as guests pass through the neobaroque façade of Villa Copenhagen, they find themselves in a world of conscious, modern luxury with an absolutely extraordinary atmosphere. This hotel has 390 rooms and is located in the former building of the Danish Postal and Telegraph Office dating back to 1912, signaling a “new social scene” in the Danish capital. It offers a thoughtful, accessible luxury complemented by intuitive and personal service. By integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals into its overall strategy, the hotel takes responsibility for its impact on the planet. This is why water-saving and durable AXOR products were chosen for the bathrooms. Another reason is undoubtedly the aesthetic aspect.
The concept of Villa Copenhagen was developed by a team from the London studio Universal Design Studios. The rooms in the villa are designed to provide moments of escape and slowing down while connecting with the beauty of Copenhagen. Handcrafted zellige tiles, an interior window made of textured glass, and custom-made marble sinks are complemented by AXOR faucets in chrome and brushed black chrome finishes, an exclusive AXOR Finish Plus surface: “We chose the AXOR Montreux collection because we were looking for a product that conveys traditional feelings while still being modern, primarily due to its black chrome finish,” says Richard McConkey, interior architect, Universal Design Studio.
Special attention is deserved for the custom-made basin and bathtub faucets AXOR Montreux in eight hotel suites of Shamballa. The suites designed by the luxury Danish brand Shamballa Jewels, convey an atmosphere of luxurious coziness, relaxed calmness, and thrilling contrast. For the bathrooms, the Shamballa team closely collaborated with AXOR Signature, a service for customizing AXOR products; the goal was to develop faucet handles set with gemstones in the form of a double lightning bolt, the symbol of Shamballa. The handles are adorned with rubies and sapphires, which indicate hot and cold water. They express the customization of the AXOR brand and showcase personal luxury perfectly. “The AXOR brand was very accommodating to our almost unrealizable ideas and approached them conscientiously and responsibly. It was very helpful to have a team from Germany here, assisting us from the start with technical aspects, prototype production, and quality. I fondly remember the entire collaboration with the AXOR brand,” says Olga Krukovskaja, architect, Shamballa Jewels.
All AXOR faucets at Villa Copenhagen help the hotel achieve its high sustainable development goals. The AXOR brand even developed a special shower system equipped with water-saving EcoSmart technology. “In Scandinavia, very strict water flow restrictions apply – rightly so – which we had to adhere to in the project. The AXOR brand helped us meet these criteria,” says Richard McConkey. Such water-saving measures do not detract from the guests' experience; on the contrary, they even elevate it. And that is precisely what conscious luxury is characterized by. Joy of life, inclusion, and sustainability. Villa Copenhagen perfectly aligns with the city it is named after – and one you should not miss.
