A home that reflects not only the owner's taste but also their unique personality. A home as a place where one can be themselves. But also a home that serves as a source of inspiration. This is the theme that AXOR explores in the project Distinctiveness. Is the freedom to create a truly individualized private space real luxury?
To tackle the challenging topic of individualization of intimate living spaces, the AXOR brand enlisted three renowned personalities from the architectural and design scene – Tristan Auer, Hadi Teherani, and Sarah Poniatowski. The task was to create design proposals for bathrooms that would express the personality, taste, and desires of their owners.
Personal perception today defines what true luxury is. Our style is what differentiates us
from others. It is an expression of personality. An unmistakable and unique self. That is why
we so often seek something special, extraordinary, and unique. Something that resonates with our personality. It can be a custom vacation, personalized sneakers, or exclusive car equipment. Personal settings are reflected in our morning coffee as well as in our home. Here we feel so good precisely because it perfectly meets our needs.
But how can one connect industrial production and individual needs? What does it mean when companies take clients' wishes seriously? This is where design enters the game as the art of differentiation. It is applied in our intimate home space as well. Design perceives the home as the stage for our true selves. A place that is a mirror of our imaginations and personal wishes. It blurs classic functional boundaries. The living room becomes a salon, a place for relaxation, and a playroom for children. The bathroom takes on new functions. The apartment becomes a reflection of our inner setting.
The most intimate space in our home is undoubtedly the bathroom. Here we meet ourselves. We begin and end our day in small personal rituals. It is no longer merely a functional space. It is a place for cleansing, but also for rest and regeneration. It is precisely the bathroom that shows that the highest form of luxury is the freedom of self-expression and finding fulfillment beyond the boundaries of purely functional purpose.
A home bathroom can be conceived as a spa with technology that intuitively meets our relaxation needs. Rain showers elevate daily rituals into pleasant relaxation. Overhead, hand-held, and side showers release stiff muscles. Modular shower systems, Showerpipe systems, and intelligent control units transform everyday cleansing into moments of comprehensive regeneration. Such a bathroom transcends its basic functions and becomes a space where we rediscover our strong inner selves every day.
The bathroom is one of the most complex design tasks. On minimal space, standards, technical possibilities, and customer wishes often intersect and clash. The result, however, is an experience for all our senses. The play with finishes, up to the jewel-like precision of execution, and the wide range of AXOR products for sinks, showers, and bathtubs come into play.
Renowned design personalities invited to the Distinctiveness project transform the bathroom into an inspiring space for our senses. A hand glides over different materials. It caresses cold stone, smooth metal, and warm wood. Our fingers perceive structured, polished, and velvety surfaces. Cold alternates with warmth. Innovative combinations affect our mental well-being.
The freedom of individualization in the intimate space of the bathroom is beneficial for our senses
and is the ultimate form of luxury. Thanks to the AXOR project “Distinctiveness”, the bathroom becomes a truly exclusive place.
