On December's lecture, Dutch architect and co-founder of NL Architects Kamiel Klaasse will speak alongside architecture promoter Adam Gebrian. The lecture titled "Let it pop" will focus on spaces that create diverse life, where our social bubbles may burst.
Kamiel Klaasse graduated in 1995 from the renowned Dutch university TU Delft and two years later co-founded the office NL Architects with Walter van Dijk, Pieter Bannenberg, and Mark Linnemann. Today, the studio has an international composition and enjoys a reputation as one of the most innovative offices in the country. Their projects humorously and sensitively address not only the problems of architecture itself but also urban life, housing, and unusual uses of energy resources. NL Architects has received numerous awards for its work. In 2017, among other achievements, they won the prestigious European Mies van der Rohe Awards for the renovation of the residential building The Kleiburg apartment building near Amsterdam. Notable projects include the Basketbar in Utrecht, the multifunctional centers Forum Groningen and Crossoverzaal, the De Vonk school in Belgium, and the Varkenoord sports hall in Rotterdam.
Adam Gebrian studied architecture at TUL in Liberec and the postgraduate SCIFI program at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. He gained experience from a number of European metropolises. Instead of architectural practice, he began to focus on educating and promoting architecture among the general public, as well as theoretical and critical work. In 2015, he received the Architect of the Year award. His media activities include professional articles, publications, as well as popular radio and television shows. From his short stays in Barcelona, Lisbon, and the USA, he wrote three books that convey his experiences and impressions of both well-known and lesser-known places. Like in his other activities, he shares in his books the ability to observe and perceive the environment in which we find ourselves.
