The NL architects studio was founded in 1997 by a group of graduates from the Technical University of Delft. They first gained attention with a student project for the Carstadt building, which fulfilled both urban life and parking functions. Today, the studio has an international composition, comprising around 25 members, and enjoys a reputation as one of the most innovative offices. NL's projects cleverly and sensitively address not only architectural issues but also urban life, housing, and unusual uses of energy resources. Recently, their competition proposal for the Taipei Performing Arts Center (2009) in Taiwan and the winning project Multi Mill (2010) from the competition for a floating cultural center for the Amsterdam harbor garnered widespread interest.
The lecture by one of the founding members of NL Architects, Kamiel Klaasse (*1967), will humorously connect architecture and urbanism with the concept of "mashup." Mashup, or Míchanice, is a term known from the music and internet realm, referring to the blending of two musical pieces or compilations of internet sites. During the evening, Kamiel Klaasse will present the work of the significant Dutch architectural office and will also discuss the award-winning design from the competition for Černá louka in Ostrava from 2010.
