DAAD / Days of Architecture and Design / continue their annual mission to open the world of top-notch architecture and design to the widest public and connect the local scene with the global one. The 15th edition of the DAAD festival will take place from 28/05 - 02/06/2024 in Bratislava under the auspices of the Mayor of Bratislava and the Mayor of the Old Town, in cooperation with the Slovak Chamber of Architects /SKA/ and the universities FAD STU and VŠVU. The event will also include the 7th edition of DAAF / Days of Architecture and Film.

The end of May and the beginning of June is a time when the streets of Bratislava become a welcoming place for social and friendly gatherings. It is no coincidence that the DAAD festival takes place during this period. “When we were considering the right timing, we were looking for a date when we most perceive the city as a space that is primarily for people, and good architecture plays the same role,” say the festival founders Tatiana Kollarová and Števo Polakovič. Over its long existence, DAAD has become a platform for spreading international knowledge and experience about the professional, but also ethical and environmental principles of architecture, whose main task is no longer merely to create wow effects, but to systematically create a quality inclusive environment for everyday life.

This year's festival program will be dominated by young architects and architectural studios from the local environment. Among them are authors who have their first realizations and successes in architectural competitions behind them. As the festival organizers say: “With their extraordinary view of the world, they reflect the present. They find assignments even where we no longer see them. We give them space to show how they are different, their own.” A total of 18 architectural entities will present their work, which already now or in the near future will form the core generation of contemporary architecture in Slovakia.

The DAAD festival has always prided itself on the selection of foreign guests. Instead of so-called star architects, it focuses on authors who are pushing their profession into new coordinates, particularly by seeking and applying innovations to support the sustainability of social, urban, and landscape environments. In 2024, we can look forward to the performance of the well-known Prague architect and architecture popularizer Adam Gebrian, the Swedish group Forstberg Ling from Malmö, the architectural studio Effekt from Copenhagen, the avant-garde duo MacIver-Ek Chevroulet from Zurich, the successful Czech-Slovak studio Chybik + Kristof, and the significant architectural office with a global reach Mecanoo from Delft, Netherlands.

The festive opening will take place on 28/05/2024 in the Atrium of the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, with the participation of festival partners, invited guests, and architects. Besides the SNG, the Faculty of Architecture and Design STU will also be a parallel venue for DAAD, where, among other things, an Opendesignstudio will take place featuring an exhibition of the best diploma works by graduates of architectural schools in Slovakia and a partner event Urban Market with its rich children’s and music program and the event SINGULARCH. The third venue for DAAD is traditionally the Primatial Palace, which becomes the so-called Superdesignstudio during the festival and this year brings four exhibitions of contemporary architecture and design. Every year, various cultural institutions also join DAAD with their accompanying programs, and the CLUBOVKA will unusually start on Wednesday, 22.5.2024, showcasing the Italian designer Paola Navone.

The festival program is complemented by DAAF / Days of Architecture and Film - a showcase of current documentary films in the field of architecture and design. Watching films thus enhances the experience of the DAAD festival, which is usually filled with lectures, discussions, presentations, exhibitions, but also good music and friendly encounters.
