The next Theater of Architecture with architectural historian Rostislav Švácha will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 6:00 PM at the Art Museum in Olomouc, Denisova 47. This time, Prof. Švácha will lead a conversation with architect Jan Hájek from the Prague studio M1, known in Olomouc as the author of the beautiful yet controversial building of the Faculty of Science.
In the greenhouse of the Břevnov Monastery, where the studio is located, remarkable works have emerged in recent years. The design for the new headquarters of the Brno Philharmonic won a public architectural competition. The Czech Architecture Award 2016 was awarded to "Three Towers," original insulation projects for municipal buildings in Líbeznice. The local community center nicknamed "Dřevák" also made it to the shortlist of the same award. In Líbeznice, a Central Bohemian village that is becoming almost as famous for its modern architecture as the town of Litomyšl, Jan Hájek fulfills the role of unofficial chief architect. A fresh success has also been recorded by the Dukla boatyard in Prague. And what about Olomouc? Have all already taken a liking to the new building of the Faculty of Science, designed by architects M1 in the years 2003-2009?
