Leading Czech architectural historian Rostislav Švácha will introduce the architect and urban planner Pavla Melková to the Olomouc audience. A holder of several architectural awards (main prize Grand Prix 2012, East Centric Architecture Awards 2013, nomination for the European Mies van der Rohe Award 2013), she designs, publishes, lectures, teaches, and organizes. She focuses on the creation of public space in the city, revitalization of buildings and areas, as well as new constructions. She is a partner of Miroslav Cikán in the MCA studio. Since 2012, she has been active at the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague, where she founded the Office of Public Space and is currently the director of the City Detail Section. For her successful Manual for the Creation of Public Spaces, she was nominated in the Architect of the Year 2014 competition. She has published books such as Experiencing Architecture; A Table by the Window, with a Book on the Table; Space for a Person in the Work of Michal Škoda; and The Humanistic Role of Architecture.
Rostislav Švácha will ask, among other things, about the role of the architect or public space, Pavla Melková will clarify her own concepts of “holistic heritage care” or “the humanistic role of architecture,” the message that gave its name to the groundbreaking book published at the end of last year. What will you ask?
