Luhačovice - The Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín will hold exhibitions and accompanying activities and programs in the renovated spaces of the Sun and River Baths in Luhačovice in the Zlín Region. This will take place based on a memorandum of cooperation between the museum and the owner of the premises, the Luhačovice Spa, the spokesman of the regional authority Soňa Ličková informed CTK today. The museum is established by the region, and the county council approved the agreement. The Luhačovice Spa plans to open the renovated complex this spring, said Dalibor Chrastina, a representative of the spa, to CTK today.
"The Sun and River Baths in Luhačovice are an exceptional work of architect Dušan Jurkovič and, after successful restoration, aspire to the status of a national cultural monument. I am therefore very pleased that the Museum of Southeast Moravia, established by the region, will have one floor dedicated here to organize exhibitions,” said regional councilor Zuzana Fišerová (Pirates). There are plans for at least three exhibitions there annually.
Visitors will also be able to take part in three additional guided tours. "The first will focus on the history of the Hydrotherapy Institute, the personality of Dušan Jurkovič, and the work of Leoš Janáček. The second will guide visitors through the exhibition of the Sun and River Baths. The third tour will include the depository of spa technologies as well as an exhibition of warmth-loving plants. These exhibitions and activities will be fully managed by the Luhačovice Spa,” said the spokesperson.
Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič significantly influenced the appearance of the Luhačovice spa. A representative of Art Nouveau architecture, who created a distinctive style significantly influenced by folk architecture, is the author of a number of buildings in the most famous Moravian spas, built in the early 20th century. The Hydrotherapy Institute and the River and Sun Baths, which the spa is reconstructing, are also Jurkovič's works. The complex will also commemorate composer Leoš Janáček, who often stayed in the spa town.
