Brno - The significant Brno architect Ivan Ruller has passed away, Czech Television Brno informed on Twitter and Facebook. Ruller was 91 years old. His architectural signature is carried by the Rondo hall, and he participated in the project of the Janáček Theater.

A complete list of works that Ruller enriched the collection of modern architecture includes over 500 items. He designed Pavilion E at the Brno Exhibition Centre, the administrative building of Ingstav, and the ceremonial hall at the Židenice cemetery.

Ruller was a student of Bohuslav Fuchs and Bedřich Rozehnal, and he was strongly influenced by functionalism and modernism. He also participated in international competitions. He worked on memorials in Auschwitz and Dakar as well as on the construction of a museum in Tripoli.

After 1989, he served as the dean of the Brno Faculty of Architecture for four years. In 2003, President Václav Klaus awarded him the Medal of Merit for services to the state in the field of art. A year later, he received the Award of the Architects' Association for lifetime achievement. He is also a laureate of the City of Brno Award.

Even at an advanced age, Ruller remained active. He taught, designed, and expressed his views on professional issues. He was engaged against the relocation of the train station in Brno.
