Brno - Today in the afternoon, the people of Brno will say farewell to the legendary architect Ivan Ruller, who passed away on March 25 at the age of 91. The funeral will be held at the Church of St. Augustine in Brno.
A complete list of works that Ruller enriched the fund of modern architecture with includes over 500 items. He designed Pavilion E at the Brno Exhibition Center, the administrative building of Ingstav, and the ceremonial hall at the Židenice Cemetery.
As an architect, he was particularly associated with Brno, but he also participated in the memorial in Auschwitz and the Museum of History in Tripoli. His work was marked by the influence of functionalism and modernism.
During communism, he was persecuted; after 1989, he served as the dean of the Faculty of Architecture for four years and became a professor in 1994. In 2003, President Václav Klaus awarded him the Medal of Merit for services to the state in the field of arts. A year later, he received the award from the Association of Architects for his lifetime achievement.
