Brandýs nad Orlicí - The state has succeeded for the fourth time in selling the castle in Brandýs nad Orlicí. Today's auction was attended by two interested parties, with the highest bid amounting to 3.990 million crowns, said Radel Ležatka, spokesman for the Office for Representation of the State in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM) to ČTK. According to him, the new owner is a private individual.

"According to his statement, he is considering its use for the public as well. We are pleased that we managed to find a new owner and we believe that he will breathe new life into the monument," Ležatka stated.

The starting price of the castle gradually decreased from the original eight million crowns to 3.99 million crowns. No one participated in the first two auctions; one interested party came to the third. He also submitted a deposit for the auction, however, he decided not to make a bid during the actual auction.

The castle is gradually deteriorating; it was damaged by floods in 1997 and has been empty since 2014. A year earlier, part of the ceiling collapsed on the first floor. The ÚZSVM took over the building in 2017. The state offers the historical building, including about 7,000 square meters of the adjoining park with several commemorative trees and an oval brick pond. The price also includes several items of the former kitchen equipment.

The Baroque monument dates from 1781 to 1783. The Trauttmannsdorf family commissioned its construction on the site of a former monastery of the Unity of Brethren. In 1914, it acquired a Classicist appearance when it was rebuilt by the banking family Fisher.

The castle became state property in 1945 based on a decree from the President of the Republic. The building housed a dormitory for the Secondary School of Textile Engineering, the Secondary School of Railway Engineering, and eventually served as the residence of the Educational Institution for Children and Youth.
