Brandýs nad Orlicí - The state will once again attempt to sell the chateau in Brandýs nad Orlicí. The second auction is scheduled for July 16. No one registered for the April auction. The state is now offering the monument for at least 7.2 million crowns, which is 800,000 crowns cheaper. Andrej Bančanský, spokesman for the Office for Representation of the State in Property Matters (ÚZSVM), said this today.
"It happens that similar properties offered to the public are not sold immediately in the first round. However, the circumstances and duration of the sale vary case by case," said Bančanský.
The first round of the auction took place on April 9. The minimum bid was set at eight million crowns and the minimum raise was set at 200,000 crowns. The repeated auction will take place on July 16 at 11:00.
"In the current round, the minimum bid is set at 7.2 million crowns and the minimum raise is again 200,000 crowns. Potential bidders must deposit a bidding guarantee of 400,000 crowns by July 15 at the latest," Bančanský stated. One interested party registered with the office but did not show up for today's inspection. The office will offer them a replacement date.
The chateau is gradually deteriorating. In 2013, when the building housed a correctional facility, part of the ceiling collapsed on the first floor. No one was injured, but the state decided to vacate the building, and it has been empty since 2014. The ÚZSVM took it over in 2017.
The building was damaged by floodwaters in 1997 and requires renovation. The load-bearing walls and vaults above the ground floor, however, show only less serious damage. Currently, the building is protected against flooding by a flood barrier built by the Elbe River Authority.
The Baroque chateau is a cultural monument. It dates from 1781 to 1783. It was commissioned by the Trauttmannsdorf family on the site of a former Unity of the Brethren monastery. In 1914, it acquired a Neoclassical appearance after being rebuilt by the banking family Fishers.
The Czechoslovak state acquired the chateau with the land based on a decree from the president of the republic in 1945. The building then served as a dormitory for the Secondary School of Textile Engineering, the Secondary School of Railway Engineering, and finally as the residence of a correctional facility for children and youth.
