Jevíčko – The area of the former brewery in Jevíčko in the Svitavy region is set to gain a new use. A private investor intends to build apartments and social facilities for seniors there. The brewery recently changed ownership, acquired by Brewery triangle, which also presented its plan to the city council, said Mayor Dušan Pávek.
"There should be a housing complex created there, which will include an Alzheimer center, meaning a housing complex for seniors. It is not the city's intention, but that of a private development company," Pávek stated.
The city will need to make a change to the zoning plan due to the developer's plans, so that new buildings can be constructed in the area. There are no objections to the intention. "We are just addressing minor details concerning the height of the buildings and other specifics, to keep it under control. The area is in a place where it is visible from the hill and can play a role in the panoramic view," the mayor said. According to him, facilities for seniors, including those suffering from Alzheimer's disease, are needed in Jevíčko.
According to Pávek, the investor plans to demolish the original buildings of the brewery. They are in poor condition, their reconstruction would be too demanding and would not correspond to the new use, and they do not have any historical protection. A new building is to be constructed in their place.
The brewery was established in 1895 as the Joint Stock Brewery Jevíčko. In 1987, it was closed by East Bohemian Breweries and handed over to the local agricultural cooperative. They tried to repair the brewery, but eventually sold it. Entrepreneurs did invest in the brewery, but they lacked the funds to complete the renovation. In 1998, it was rented by the Jevíčko Brewery Company, which produced besides the ten and twelve Gevík also a non-alcoholic drink from malt, hops, and grape sugar called Jevík, but after a few months stopped production. In 1999, the brewery was purchased by Knížecí pivovar Lanškroun, which wanted to restart it, however, the plan did not succeed, and in spring 2000, it sold the technology. In 2001, the owner of the brewery in Jevíčko became the Ergo Chornice company, which carried out malting of barley in the brewery's premises and later used it for the production of spirits and lemonade.
