Prague - The Central Bohemian chateau Štiřín has not been sold even after the fifth attempt. No one registered for the electronic auction with a starting price of 1.156 billion crowns this time either, according to the auction website. The Office for the Representation of the State in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM) stated in a press release that after the unsuccessful auction, they will evaluate the next steps regarding how to manage the property.

The office first offered the Štiřín chateau for sale last September, then with an initial price of 3.3 billion crowns. In subsequent rounds of the auction, it gradually reduced the price and also removed part of the land in the chateau park area from the sales offer. The director of the property office, Kateřina Arajmu, stated at the beginning of February in the parliamentary control committee that the office does not sell the property below its price.

On this occasion, the committee urged the ÚZSVM to start negotiations with the municipality of Kamenice, which is interested in some plots from the chateau area. The municipality would like to acquire, free of charge, the land along one of the roads managed by the Central Bohemian Region so that they can build a sidewalk on it. They are also seeking to acquire the building of the former hostel with the former civil protection shelter in order to establish another kindergarten there.

Chateau Štiřín, located about 25 kilometers from Prague, previously served as a hotel with a restaurant, wellness center, and golf course. Originally, Štiřín was managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced last year that it did not need the premises and transferred it to the property office in June. At the time of the transfer, according to the office, the area was closed. This year, the office announced that no other state institution expressed interest in the chateau, and therefore they will start selling it to private interested parties.

The Štiřín chateau was built in the mid-18th century. It acquired its current appearance around 1900 after modifications according to the design of architect Jiří Stibral. The chateau came into state ownership after World War II as a confiscated property; before that, it had been owned by the Ringhoffer family for decades. After the war, it was briefly used by scouts. Between 1985 and 1993, renovations were carried out in the chateau so that it could be used as a hotel.

The Štiřín chateau is not the only property that the property office has failed to sell. This year, the auctions of the Veleslavín chateau in Prague and the Broadway palace in Prague also ended unsuccessfully. In mid-January, the auction of the Hanácká Barracks in Olomouc, however, was successfully concluded, which was auctioned off for 91 million crowns by the Brno company Salibary. The barracks were successfully sold on the tenth attempt.
