Tábor - The exhibition at the Gallery U Radnice in Tábor will present seven proposals for the transformation of the former barracks of Jan Žižka. The winning proposal, selected by the municipality in December, will be presented by the architect at the Wednesday vernissage. People can view the competition proposals until February 15. They can also participate in a poll for the name of the new urban district that will emerge from the redevelopment of the military complex, said Deputy Mayor Jiří Bartáček today to ČTK. "Given that many residents of Tábor were interested and wanted to see the proposals, we reached out to all seven firms to ask if we could publish their materials," said Bartáček. All investors agreed, and the city decided to organize an exhibition of Barracks as a modern and timeless district, where people can view the proposals in computer animations as well. Seven firms entered the competition, but the judging committee had to disqualify three proposals because they did not meet the requirements. The winning proposal was approved by the municipality on December 17 last year. The firm wants to create a shopping arcade and more than 500 apartments with underground garages and plenty of greenery in the area. The investment, worth approximately one billion crowns, will be spread over eight years. The city wants to keep about one hectare of the 7.5-hectare barracks as a reserve. The city also wants to involve the residents who are attracted to the exhibition in choosing the name of the newly emerging part of the city. "We want to propose to the citizens that they drop a note with a name suggestion for this district into some box," added Bartáček. Tábor took over the Jan Žižka barracks from the army at the end of November 2006. The city initially sought an investor to remodel the former military complex through a selection process at the beginning of last year, but only one applicant came forward. The municipality then canceled the competition and announced a new one. Seven firms entered it by the end of August.
