Tábor

Tábor - A new district is emerging in the area of the former barracks of Jan Žižka in Tábor. It should house up to 500 apartments and several shops by the end of 2015, representatives of the investor and the city, which still owns the property, said today to journalists. The cost of building the complex is approximately one billion crowns. The new district is to be called Dvorce.
According to Roman Lhota from the company involved in the realization of the complex, interested parties will be able to choose apartments in the price range of 600,000 to 1.2 million crowns. "We are already offering the first apartments for sale," Lhota said.
In the area, which covers more than six hectares, the construction company is currently renovating the first building. A four-story building is being created from the former administrative building of the Jan Žižka barracks. However, it is supposedly the only building that the company will renovate. The other apartments will be created in new buildings.
The owner of the former barracks is still the city. However, it has already signed a lease agreement and a framework contract with the investor. According to it, the investor will become the owner of part of the complex upon completion, Lhota said.
The original deadline for completing the work was guaranteed by the investor in the contract to be by the end of 2015. However, it is currently not entirely certain whether the planned thirty houses in the area will be completed by that deadline. According to Lhota, work has slowed down due to the economic crisis and also soil remediation, which was contaminated in part of the former area. "But it definitely was not water contamination, as was spread among people," Lhota said.
The mayor of Tábor, Jiří Fišer (Tábor 2020), believes that the emerging complex will be affordable for the city's residents. "Moreover, they will be attractive apartments," he stated.
The preparation for changing the barracks into a new district took several years. In 2006, only one company initially applied for the competition. The following year, other interested parties expressed their interest, and the city council therefore announced a new procedure in the spring of 2007. Ultimately, seven companies applied, but the evaluating committee had to disqualify three offers because they did not meet the requirements. The winning proposal was then approved by the city council on December 17, 2007.
Tábor took over the Jan Žižka barracks from the army at the end of November 2006. The city wants to keep about one hectare of the 7.5-hectare barracks area as a reserve.
