Tábor - Tábor will announce an architectural competition in mid-October for a new residential quarter, Dvorce, on the site of the former barracks of Jan Žižka. The aim is to create an urban district with apartments, services, and recreational facilities, with costs expected to be in the tens of millions of CZK. It is estimated that the site will have up to 520 apartments for 1,250 residents. In June 2021, the city council aims to sign a contract with the winner of the competition, who will then provide the territorial study. This was stated by the city council spokesperson Luboš Dvořák.
The quarter will be developed by Tábor in phases, together with private investors. The city aims to find a timeless solution. "In accordance with current urban planning trends in land use with regard to the sustainability of the development of the area," stated Iveta Čierná on behalf of the competition organizers. The city wants to find an architectural design team through a competitive workshop, with which it will cooperate. The costs of the architectural competition will be 900,000 CZK excluding VAT.
The area covers approximately 90,000 m² and belongs to the city. It is located between the Prague and Náchod residential neighborhoods. The city, which has about 35,000 residents, completed the demolition of military buildings this year. "There is currently a slightly undulating terrain, but it has been cleared, free of original structures, and there are no dormitories or garages," Dvořák said. The demolition work cost 6.6 million CZK.
The jury, which will include architects and city representatives, will select three to five teams in November to develop proposals. In June 2021, Tábor plans to conclude a contract with the winner of the competitive workshop, who will prepare the territorial study.
