Prague - The municipal district of Prague-Troja, together with the Quido Schwank Foundation - Troja, a city in greenery, has published an extensive and lavish publication titled The Prague Quarter of Troja. It presents the history, urban development, present, and outline of the future of Prague's Troja in 360 pages of text and photographs on glossy paper. According to the deputy mayor of Troja, Václav Valtr, the book took ten years to produce. "Troja is known for having landmarks like the castle, the zoo, and the botanical garden, but there are certainly other places that are equally interesting and less known," said the chairman of the foundation's board, Prokop Toman. "We had an idea focused more on art history and aimed for a deeper insight," Valtr added. According to preliminary agreements, the book should be available at the zoo and botanical garden, at the foundation's headquarters in Troja, and at the local authority. "We want to negotiate with the (Troja) castle," Valtr said. So far, a thousand copies have been published. "We believe that we do not need to rush with distribution; perhaps we will come to an agreement with some booksellers if there is interest, perhaps for the pre-Christmas market," Valtr added. The book also includes extensive summaries in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Italian. The Quido Schwank Foundation - Troja, a city in greenery, strives to fulfill the legacy of the Troja landowner and patron Alois Svoboda, who donated the Troja Castle and the lands on which the zoo now stands to the state in 1922. His grandson Quido Schwank used the property, which he acquired in restitution after 1989, to finance public benefit projects. Today, according to Toman, the foundation contributes to the restoration of the unique characteristics of the settlement long known as Troja.
