Architecture surrounds us at every step and significantly influences the space we live in. No building is the same; it is an expression of the architect who signed it. Do you have a building in your surroundings that caught your attention, and would you like to express your gratitude to its architect? Then nominate it for the Architect of the Year 2015 competition. The award is presented annually as part of the FOR ARCH construction fair.
The Architect of the Year award is intended for individuals who have contributed to architecture in the Czech Republic with their innovative approach over the past 5 years, whether in house design or urban development, as well as in landscape creation and through theoretical, educational, promotional, publication, and popularization work. In 2014, the award for exceptional contribution to architecture was given to Josef Pleskot, who transformed the unused buildings of the Vítkovice Ironworks in Ostrava into the Science and Technology Center. This year, architect Josef Pleskot will sit on the expert jury, joining the jury chairman Zdeněk Fránek and other architects – Antonín Novák, Regina Loukotová, and Osamu Okamura. “It is an honorary title awarded annually to an individual who has excelled or consistently excels in the field of architecture and who significantly contributes to its good reputation. It is an exceptional and unique award in our country. This wonderfully complements the mosaic of other awards for architectural achievements or lifetime works,” stated the chairman of the expert jury, architect Zdeněk Fránek.
Anyone can nominate their architect - the general public, competition jury members, architects, professional media, as well as galleries, museums, and authorities. Nominations for Architect of the Year 2015 must be submitted no later than March 15 to the competition secretary and must include a short profile of the nominee, a selection of their most famous works, and the work for which the nomination is proposed, including a brief justification and an image attachment.
Public voting will take place from June to August 2015 on the competition website, where the nominated architects will be presented. The title of Architect of the Year 2015 will be awarded at a gala evening of the FOR ARCH fair on September 16, 2015, in the presence of the jury members.
