Vodňany – Vodňany in the Strakonice region have a new funeral hall. It replaced the original one, which the city had to demolish due to its poor technical condition. The new ceremonial space was designed by the architectural studio Žalský architekti. Construction began less than a year ago. The city paid approximately 15 million Czech crowns for the funeral hall. According to the city’s deputy mayor Tomáš Bednařík (Vodňany for Change), the new hall is one of the steps toward an overall modern renovation of the cemetery that the city is preparing.
"Our goal is a complete revitalization of the cemetery and its landscaping to meet the demands of modern funerary practices and to make full use of the entire area. At the same time, we want the surroundings of the cemetery to become part of the city's recreational zone since the area U Vojtěcha connects freely to the extensive forest park in Zátiší, which is a popular destination for tourists and locals," Bednařík stated.
The new hall, which the public could visit today, is versatile enough to serve both for intimate farewells to the deceased and for larger ceremonies. The hall includes a shelter with drinking water and toilets.
The city cemetery of Vodňany, which has a population of about seven thousand, is located in the northern part near the chapel of Saint Vojtěch. The newly constructed funeral hall faces the street with a smooth facade, forming a new entrance to the cemetery, and is furnished in a minimalist style inside.
