Jury's evaluation:
a)
overall urbanistic and architectural quality of the proposal with an emphasis on the "building"
Proposal No. 3 presents a high-quality architectural solution without an emphasis on formal elements – correct composition of the object, problem-free urbanistic solution that is clearly zoned and clear. The jury's reservations relate to the use of cladding panels made of wood-wool with cement binder and Heratekta C2 031 polystyrene without final finishing. According to the manufacturer, these panels provide an ideal substrate for final plasters with high strength and impact resistance. This resistance would be highly preferred by the user. The jury believes that the authors will consider using a more durable material for the surface treatment of facades, without disrupting the overall concept of the solution.
b) economy and financial appropriateness of the chosen solution with regard to the estimated construction costs according to point 2.3 and the efficiency of building implementation and operation with emphasis on energy intensity
The authors' overall approach shows a sense of moderation in the construction within the given environment – from this, the jury also concludes that this proposal is closest to the financial expectations of the municipality. The proposal for heating, hot water preparation, and ventilation is developed very briefly and essentially allows for both heating alternatives – either gas or heat pump.
c) complexity and completeness of the solution
The proposal is a comprehensive solution to the given issue and has the best prerequisites, after certain minor adjustments, to meet the client's requirements.
d) contribution of the designs and ideas for a quality completion of the area as a modern and attractive leisure facility addressed within broader relationships
Proposal No. 3 brings architectural quality and moderation to the area, which at a reasonable price will increase the attractiveness of the complex in all respects.

2nd prize (35,000 CZK): Josef Kubát, Romana Bedrunková, participant: Jan Trávníček

Jury's evaluation:

The basic idea of Proposal No. 4 is to create a new envelope, an additional layer, placed over the mass of the original house, while preserving the basic spatial layout.
a) overall urbanistic and architectural quality of the proposal with an emphasis on the "building"
The overall urbanistic solution is very high-quality and environmentally friendly, the design respects the existing plot, significantly reduces paved areas, and the main links are clearly readable.
b) economy and financial appropriateness of the chosen solution with regard to the estimated construction costs according to point 2.3 and the efficiency of building implementation and operation with emphasis on energy intensity
Wood was chosen as the primary visible material, which integrates the building well into the natural environment. The building has a suitable scale, compact contemporary morphology. The spatial solution is economical without large extensions and significant interventions, separated entrances are maintained as per the client's request, and conversely, the central corridor allows for later variability.
The arrangement of the restaurant and facilities is insufficient. In terms of the economy and sustainability of the given concept, the proposed expansion of the building by means of covered wooden balconies, especially on the second floor, where maintenance will be necessary, is relatively inappropriate. Conversely, their use will be minimal considering the required type of accommodation.
c) complexity and completeness of the solution
The jury agreed that the proposal would be very costly to implement and maintain, the mentioned costs are underestimated, considering the terrace sizes, roof extension, and the use of wooden cladding.
d) contribution of the designs and ideas for a quality completion of the area as a modern and attractive leisure facility addressed within broader relationships
The context is positive, the favorable appearance corresponds to the place and the size of the town of Vodňany.

3rd prize (20,000 CZK): Eugen Řehoř, Jitka Pucandlová, Stanislava Gregorová, Štěpán Řehoř, Vít Šimek

Jury's evaluation:
a)
overall urbanistic and architectural quality of the proposal with an emphasis on the building
The proposal was evaluated from the perspective of urbanistic-architectonic overall impression as a compositionally clearly defined solution of the space with the potential for future development along the longitudinal axis of the existing building, leaving enough space around for further sports use. The compositional axes are very clear, and the greenery is well resolved.
The building is supplemented on the outside with a wooden airy shell, and its volume is simplified into a unifying mass through the addition of a protruding solution of the external appearance of the object. However, the maintenance of such a designed horizontal arrangement will be problematic due to dust accumulation, weather influences, and the temptation to climb on individual elements; this proposal thus poses problematic future costs.
The spatial solution is functionally divided, but the entry to the changing rooms is directly from the outdoor environment, thus the changing rooms lose a certain degree of discretion. Conversely, the restaurant section is well functionally resolved. On the other hand, the terrace in the 2nd floor by the hostel rooms is above standard, as is the colonnade formed underneath.
b) economy and financial appropriateness of the chosen solution with regard to the estimated construction costs according to point 2.3 and the efficiency of building implementation and operation with emphasis on energy intensity
The proposal is interesting and attempts to attract attention with its unconventional solution but at the cost of increased investment costs beyond the estimated financial limit; the VAT has been incorrectly calculated, and another concern regarding operation was discussed about the maintenance difficulty and the risk of easy access acting as a ladder for potential thefts in the rooms, as well as resistance to damage.
The economy of operation is also approached with consideration of placing solar collectors on the roof, which would certainly contribute to lowering operation costs.
c) complexity and completeness of the overall solution,
The solution is comprehensive, incorporates contexts, possible development, especially the roofing of open space for outdoor activities; the proposal was noted for its approach to greenery and its application while also leaving some freedom for further development on other areas.
d) contribution of the designs and ideas for a quality completion of the area as a modern and attractive leisure facility addressed within broader relationships.
The benefit is the possibility of gradual development of the building in one direction that can be realized over time, while the arrangement of the entrance and parking lot and the entrance alley will be a representative approach to the sports complex, the placement of children's climbing frames is well situated. Other areas can then be utilized according to needs and scope of events.

Reward (15,000 CZK): Jan Vrbka (The Büro/architects Brno), co-author: Juan Carlos Giraldo, collaboration: Zbyněk Zavřel, Miloslav Meixner

Jury's evaluation:

The proposal was evaluated in terms of its urbanistic and architectural overall impression as interesting, providing the existing building with a modern expression, simple access, and a compositionally interesting arrangement of the parking area, creating the basic communication skeleton of the area while maintaining sufficient free space around for further sports use.
Somewhat debated was the solution for covering the outdoor area, which competes in size with the main building and thus attracts more attention than the building of the hostel with the restaurant and changing rooms itself.
The building is designed with a new architectural expression, with a modern concept of the facade and the elements used for shading the windows and fresh colors; however, it is somewhat exceptional in the given environment and does not completely fit into the town of Vodňany. The spatial organization is very well resolved in both floors from a functional and operational perspective. In terms of economy, it is one of the proposals that exceeded the financial capabilities of the investor; although the proposal in the text section provided an explanation of the cost of implementation, it was not selected mainly for economic reasons. Nevertheless, it attracted attention with its solution and first impression and was therefore selected for the award. The overall solution of the area is successful, the proposal meets the expected solution, including detailed investment cost assessment; the proposal certainly attracted attention with a significant change to the building's facade. The benefit is the delineation of the main axes of communication routes in the area, the use of and access to water with a viewing option, while the other utilization of the area is suggested through the graphics of various sports activities; the covered sports area also brings the possibility of hosting musical productions, exhibitions, and theater performances, however, its roofing solution is less suitable in the given environment.
